History
In 1977, the Hanover Adult Center began its existence in the basement of Hanover Friends Church in Mechanicsville as a not for profit. The center was incorporated and recognized as tax exempt under section 501c3 of the Internal Revenue Service Code. The adult day health services program received licensure from the Virginia Department of Social Services and moved to an independent location in the Cold Harbor Business Center on Stonewall Parkway. In September 1993, the Hanover Adult Center expanded into an even larger more accommodating space in the Cold Harbor Business Center. Recognizing an unmet need in the community, the center expanded again in 1999; the Linking Lives Day Support program was added to provide to support for persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

“As our elders age and become frailer, often declining both physically and mentally, there is a challenge to find appropriate resources and services. Adult day care is one excellent option, often preventing nursing home placement for the individual. Hanover Adult Center has frequently met these needs for my patients and their families.”
