History

The Hanover Adult Center began its existence in 1977, in the basement of Hanover Friends Church in Mechanicsville. As the Center matured, it grew into a separate entity and moved to an independent location in the Cold Harbor Business Center on Stonewall Parkway. In September 1993, with support from the community and the United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg, the Center moved into a larger, more accommodating location, also in the Cold Harbor Business Center. In 2000, the center expanded its services again by adding an additional program to provide both community-based and center-based day support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“As our elders age and become frailer, often declining both physically and mentally, there is a challenge to find appropriate resources and services. Adult day care is one excellent option, often preventing nursing home placement for the individual. Hanover Adult Center has frequently met these needs for my patients and their families.”
