Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Financial Director to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, and providing essential support for financial reporting. This role requires proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software, Microsoft Office and a strong understanding of financial concepts, making it crucial for the effective management of our financial operations. The Finance Director serves as Chief Financial Officer, functioning as the principal financial advisor and steward of the organization’s resources.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update financial records using accounting software such as QuickBooks.
- Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, debits & credits, and account reconciliation.
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and general ledger reconciliation to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Manage accounts payable, including invoicing and payment processing.
- Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
- Prepare financial reports and assist with budget preparation and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and relevant regulations in corporate or non-profit, settings.
- Manage payroll processing and tax-related tasks as needed.
- Administer employee benefits.
- Provide support during audits by preparing necessary documentation and reports for annual financial statement and Tax Form 990.
- Prepare annual budgets and prepare monthly analysis.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making.
Skills
- Proficiency in accounting software, QuickBooks, is essential.
- Strong understanding of corporate accounting, non-profit accounting.
- Familiarity with financial concepts including double entry bookkeeping, account analysis, budgeting, and technical accounting.
- Experience with bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, and payroll processing is preferred.
- Excellent skills in financial report writing and data analysis to support business decisions.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (Required)
Experience
- Proven experience in corporate accounting or nonprofit accounting roles over the last 5 years. Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of Virginia Department of Medicaid Services helpful but not required.
